Brian Kennedy (Ireland)
Show ticket only with A la carte + specials available  $47.00 pp + B.F.

Show Only (Bar Menu Available)  $47.00 pp + B.F.
ou know BRIAN KENNEDY is the ultimate live performer the second he bursts onto stage, grabs his guitar and belts out his first note with total commitment! You feel the energy, and gut reaction tells you this is going to be one whirlwind, rollercoaster of a night as you quietly look to the gods, uttering a silent prayer of thanks. For he's a ray of hope in a world where musicians are moulded, marketed and catapulted to stardom one moment, thrown to oblivion the next; where digital downloading looks set to replace the live performance and the genuine music lover is left wondering where the future legends will come from. He's the artist who seemingly has it all, blessed with a multitude of talents: singer/songwriter/guitarist, born communicator, seen and heard on countless TV and radio shows from both sides of the mike; Ireland's ambassador on more than one global music stage; recognised author of a couple of best-selling novels and numerous short stories. How lucky can one man be? But behind the facade, there's a different story. It's been a long, tough haul from the Falls Road, Belfast, his birthplace in 1966, with early years spent at the height of the troubles and the screech of sirens, rather than music, ringing in his ears. Nevertheless, with an uncanny inner strength, he turned horror to advantage by harmonising with the sirens, unaware he was nurturing a natural god-given vocal talent that would later earn him the title, "a voice to charm the angels."

ROLLING STONE: Bathed in the flickering glow of passing headlights and neon bar signs, Smither’s roots are as blue as they come. There is plenty of misty Louisiana and Lightnin’ Hopkins in Smither’s weathered singing and unhurried picking. So fine.
NEW YORK TIMES: With a weary, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger-picking style, Mr. Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to make peace with fate.

Jason Isbell (solo)

After spending six years with the genre-defying roots rock ensemble Drive-By Truckers, singer/guitarist Jason Isbell amicably left the group in 2007 to pursue a solo career. Isbell had already displayed his songwriting prowess during his tenure with the Truckers, and he funneled those talents into Sirens of the Ditch, a bluesy, punk-infused lesson in guitar tones and Southern swagger that marked his solo debut in summer 2007. Backed by a band dubbed the 400 Unit, Isbell took his songs on the road and soon began penning another album, which he recorded with the 400 Unit in 2008. Released the following year, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit found the songwriter ruminating on issues of love, youth, and war.

Nick Saxon Album Launch

I CAN remember looking at a photo of when I was younger, about two years old. I am holding a ukulele in my nappies in the lounge room.” That could well have been the turning point towards a musical career for Nick Saxon, but he looks at it in a different way. “It makes me realise, we all grow up. From an early age, Saxon began writing and composing his own music, recording everything from jam sessions, to his first EP, Misdemeanours, in 2001.Now, all eyes are on the NEXT ALBUM, "HIDE AND SEEK"! From travelling through Europe on tour, living in London for two years gigging, sleeping on beaches and busking for bus money, he’s travelled the hard road. And still is travelling, as far as he’s concerned. “I’m one of many artists on this journey. I have experienced highs and lows, but in comparison to those without love or hope, I am so lucky. All in the confined space of his bedroom, he created his own recording studio in preparation for his first album, Fireflies, which soon went on to become a very hot little album in his home town of Newcastle and Australia wide, Supporting other great artists and bands such as Custom Kings and Tijuana Cartel, his euphoric blend of funk, classical and reggae roots-style with live vocal, beat boxing, percussion and instrumental looping, he can bring the audience to a pin drop, or have them chanting for more. As he now focuses his sights on his new album "HIDE AND SEEK" and his UK tour, Nick Saxon was the only artist requested to tour with the Australian Surf Movie Festival in front of thousands, spreading his soul, heart and hypnotic melodies. Saxon will be launching his new album, "HIDE AND SEEK" with a whole bunch of friends playing by his side in a night that will guarantee you too be out of your seat in no time.

The Break
Two Course meal and show  $99.50 pp + B.F.

Show ticket only with bar menu available  $45.00 pp + B.F.

It’s been a long time between drinks for Midnight Oil fans. The only gigs in the last eight years have been at the Wave Aid and Sound Relief charity concerts. These exhilarating performances prompted a strong desire in drummer Rob Hirst and guitarists Martin Rotsey and Jim Moginie to start making music together in a new form. With that we introduce you to THE BREAK. In what might at first seem an unlikely union, the three founding members of Midnight Oil are joined by Brian Ritchie bass player of US band Violent Femmes. The Oils of course have their roots in the surf pubs of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The Femmes on the other hand hail from Milwaukee Wisconsin. What is not so well known however is that the two bands have shared a history, a friendship and even a tour manager for over a decade, having met when they both played the inaugural ‘Earth Day’ concert at Columbia’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’. When Ritchie recently moved to Hobart Tasmania the stars were aligned and the four got together for a jam in Jim Moginie’s studio. Kicking off with an old Link Wray track ‘Rumble’ (made famous in the movie Pulp Fiction) the sound that emerged took on an energy of its own and the new band was born. THE BREAK bring a sheer raw vitality and phenomenal force to the surf rock genre. Their powerhouse sound does of course have that unmistakable whiff of Oil but unlike anything the band has done before. THE BREAK explore new horizons and obscure influences whilst tipping the occasional nod to 60’s legends such as Ennio Morricone, Joe Meek, Link Wray and Dick Dale as well as the psychedelic musical meanderings of San Francisco’s Mermen with whom Ritchie has played on numerous occasions.

Beguiling orchestral and lush, Melbourne band The Wishing Well create spellbinding sounds which produce a rich tapestry of mesmerizing folk, pop and rock. Performing together for just over two years, they are relative newcomers to the scene, The Wishing Well however come with an impressive musical maturity and remarkable background. Lead singer Jai Larkan has previously supported artists such as Bob Geldof, Andy White, Liam O'Maonlai and Tim Finn and the band has shared the stage with David Gray, James Morrison, Seal and Joss Stone. Clearly The Wishing Well have defined their craft in a remarkably short timeframe together, having played an impressive 600 gigs on the international circuit, including playing at the Queenscliff Music Festival (Aus) and The Blue Balls Festival (CH). Music Oz Awards finalists (2007). The Wishing Well evoke an extraordinary gamut of emotions with their compelling and awe- inspiring arrangements spun around magnificently poetic lyrics. A cacophony of three part harmonies, wistful violin and majestic rhythms all melded to lead singer Jai Larkans achingly strong and haunting vocals.

Paul Greene

Show ticket only bar menu available  $22.00 pp + B.F.

Paul Greene’s three and a half octave voice, catchy melodies, witty lyrics and unique arrangements make him one of Australia’s most exciting musical prospects. His music is a magnificent concoction of soul, folk, pop, roots and rock which he delivers all by his lonesome, with only a battery of well worn guitars, a stomp-box and a belt full of harmonicas for company. One of those rare artists whose songs are infectious and easily accessible, yet full of depth and complexity he is equally as well versed as a songwriter and an interpreter of other people’s material. Greene has built a loyal and enthusiastic following on his willingness to get out on the road and tour, and tour, and tour. Now a regular on the festival circuit the past year has seen him perform at East Coast Blues & Roots Festival, Toyota Muster, Queenscliff, Festival Of The Sun, Coastfest, Deni Ute Muster, Caloundra Music Festival, Woodford and Peat’s Ridge where has drawn praise from the likes of Ani DiFranco, The Waifs, Patty Griffin and Pete Murray, amongst others. This will be a rare band show, the first time Greene has toured with a full band for a number of years. The new album ‘Everywhere is Home’ will be released on April 19, 2010.

JPY became one of the biggest Australian stars of the 70’s and his career has progressed through the 80’s, 90’s and into the 21 Century. There’s not much of John’s career that hasn’t already been documented: a string of hits spawned over 4 million record sales, a couple of King of Pop awards (The ARIA of their day), a Logie and a bunch of radio and TV awards from around the country and overseas. JPY’s signature tune “Love Is In The Air” came back as an international hit in the 90’s after it was included on the soundtrack for the movie “Strictly Ballroom”. JPY’s ability to vary from a light pop to an edgy rock pop voice and his sparkling personality gave a particular stamp to a special type of Australian pop – one that found hits throughout Europe and South Africa. As a performer John was hard to beat, and remains so. There are few people who enjoy playing music as much and who give the audience their all.

Show ticket only with bar menu available  $45.00 pp + B.F.

He's Back at The King's Castle!! Jeff Martin was raised in Windsor, Ontario and started playing the guitar at age 8. He formed his first band at age 11 and decided, then and there, that this is what he wanted to do with his life. In high school he was challenged by an older student to learn a blues-inspired Led Zeppelin song which inspired his father, a blues fan, to turned him on to the blues standards. Jeff caught on quickly and could frequently be found jamming with professional bands from the Windsor Detroit area while still in his teens. During his teens he was also given a copy of The Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's album and his imagination was captured by the instrumentation of Within You Without You. Jeff developed a fascination with eastern tunings and instruments, a preoccupation he later indulged with great success as a member of the seminal Canadian band, The Tea Party. Jeff is also a producer. In addition to producing or co-producing all of The Tea Party's albums he has worked with artists such as Tenth Planet and Hundred Mile House and has recorded with David Usher, Conjure One and Todd Kerns.

The Flood
Main meal and show  $65.00 pp + B.F.

Show ticket only with bar menu available  $25.00 pp + B.F.

There's something prematurely mythic about The Flood. Their name swirls with the gravity of the Old Testament and the everyday calamity of life on the land: a force of nature, and a story thick with sediments of truth and fable. Rock 'n' roll has its own tributary from this source, of course. Dylan, the Band, Creedence, Neil Young, Gram Parsons and John Prine drank from the stream that fuelled the Dingoes, Don Walker, Paul Kelly and the scores of waterholes between Sydney and Tamworth that nourished the Flood these past ten years. This band, in turn, has carved its own legend. Nashville troubadour Kevin Welch said his brief stint out front was "like getting behind the wheel of a Formula One race car". Fans have long known the feeling. Their last album, The Late Late Show, won Tamworth's Golden Guitar for Group of the Year in '06. Rhythms magazine calls them "the best Australian country rock band since The Dingoes."

Dragon are back, fronted by the legendary kiwi singer Mark Williams. This version of Dragon rocks its way through a long list of iconic songs that are part of the national estate. Bass player, Todd Hunter has reformed the band after a much needed break of 10 years. Todd and Mark are joined by Canadian guitar slinger, Bruce Reid and drum wizard Pete Drummond. The band is known for anthems like April Sun In Cuba, Are You Old Enough, Rain, Speak No Evil, Young Years, This Time, Sunshine, Celebrate and Dreams of Ordinary Men. Todd and Marc Hunter started the band in 1973 and Dragon sold over 2 million records over 30 years. The current live show evolves from an intimate acoustic beginning to a spirited, electric, crowd rousing finale. Mark Williams sings each song in a way that is familiar to the audience but completely his own and strong playing and sublime vocal harmonies have the crowd singing along as if everyone on the room is in the band. Dragon manages to reframe 30 years of Australian musical history into one coherent picture and do justice to a great collection of timeless songs.

Harry Manx (Canada)
Two Course Meal & Show  $99.50 pp + B.F.

Show ticket only bar menu available  $45.00 pp + B.F.
ONE OF OUR ALL TIME FAVOURITES IS COMING TO LIZOTTES NEWCASTLE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!!
Mysticssippi" blues man Harry Manx has been called an "essential link" between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. He has created a unique sound that is hard to forget and deliciously addictive to listen to. Born on the Isle of Man, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe, Japan, India and Brazil. He honed his hypnotic live show on street corners, in cafes, bars and at festivals. But it was Indian music that captured Manx and in the mid 80s he began his five-year tutelage with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for A Meeting by the River). He also received the gift of Bhatt's custom-made, self-designed Mohan veena-a 20-stringed sitar/guitar-that was the catalyst for Harry to forge a new path with his now signature east-meets-west style of music. A successful touring performer, Manx has brought his "breathtaking" solo shows across Canada, into the USA, Australia, France and most recently to Singapore and Spain. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals, world-class theatres, concert halls and infamous Blues clubs around the globe. Playing the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica and banjo, Manx quickly envelops the audience into what has been dubbed "the Harry Zone" with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful melodies of his original songs. "The live performances have become the most exciting part of the music business for me," Harry says. "And it's not only the playing; it's all the other magic that happens between myself and the audience. My goal has always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the music." Blend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, add a sprinkle of gospel and some compelling grooves. The result is hard to resist, easy to digest and keeps audiences coming back for more.

With the seemingly incongruous notion that you can meld grandeur and honesty, from out of the loop comes Mr. Percival. A Capella, performance artist, sleight of hand. Call it what you wish, because he does defy pigeonholing, but one thing's for sure, Mr. Percival, with a voice created by angels, is a festival of talent in his own right.

A brief Tim Finn timeline: In 1983, he recorded Escapade, the first of what have been his too infrequent solo albums, each one raising the bar for his leaps into the world of Beatle-esque pop. 1986’s Big Canoe tapped into the synth-pop sound of the era with shoulda been hits like "Don’t Bury My Heart" and "No Thunder, No Fire, No Rain." 1987 found Tim penning the soundtrack to the Dame Edna Everidge film Les Patterson Save the World. In 1989, he delivered his third solo disc, the self-titled Tim Finn, recorded with Mitchell Froom, who produced Crowded House. The connection to Froom was a preview of wonderful music to come, when in 1991, Finn moved in as a fourth member of Crowded House for the Woodface album and tour. Collaborating with his brother Neil for the first time (they'd shared the stage in Split Enz), he wrote some of the most memorable songs of his career, including 'Weather With You,' 'It's Only Natural,' 'Four Seasons In One Day' and 'All I Ask.'
As a live performer – be it stripped back acoustic or leading a full-band assault – Tim Finn remains mercurial and magnetic: his pure tenor voice plaintive and yearning; his energy boundless and infectious; his ethos always to engage and entertain. And he does. For more than 35 years now. Over 20 albums. And counting.

Their debut CD and their performances have received significant critical acclaim across the board . Prominent Music Critic and Reviewer, John Shand wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald that their music "moves from pure flamenco in favour of a more contemporary style, the spirit, a dramatic, sexually charged and haughty sadness remains in tact." The Ensemble was voted Best World Music Artist at the 2008 MusicOz Awards.

THE BONDI CIGARS
MAIN Course Meal a Show  $62.00 pp + B.F.

Show ticket only bar menu available  $20.00 pp + B.F.
ONE OF AUSTRALIA'S MOST LEGENDARY RHYTHM AND BLUES OUTFITS COMES BACK TO LIZOTTE'S TO BOOGIE ON DOWN !!
When the Bondi Cigars were first gigging around Sydney, late 1989, they moved in a blues/R&B circuit which, while robust enough since the 60s, had then been sparked into new life by the ‘blues revival’ of the mid-80’s, spearheaded by Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Stevie Ray Vaughan and similar crusaders. And while many of the Sydney bands from that era have vanished, become historical footnotes or undergone major changes, the Cigars - true survivors - have battled on, without ever compromising their distinctive no nonsense style, to become a leading force in Australian R&B. Apart from the timeless, unpretentious nature of the music, an obvious reason for the longevity of the Cigars must be the ongoing musical team work of 2 foundation members, Shane Pacey and Al Britton, who continue to co-lead the band. This also explains the consistency of the band’s sound, instantly recognisable for 17 years now, despite personnel changes and occasional stylistic variations The Cigars have consistently delivered the goods; with Down In The Valley nominated in the 2003 ARIA awards for Best Blues & Roots Album, 1995’s After Closing Time awarded Best Blues Album at the 1996 Lithgow Blues Festival, and two of their songs, Lead Me Not Into Temptation and Intensive Care, chosen to feature on the popular ABC Seachange album. As with all great bands, the sum of the whole exceeds the sum of the parts and the Bondi Cigars are no exception:

MENTAL AS ANYTHING
Three Course Meal & Show  $99.50 pp + B.F.

Show Ticket Only (Bar Menu Available)  $35.00 pp + B.F.

A popular urban myth concerns a group of art students who passed themselves off as a band in order to con the local publican into giving them a gig in exchange for free beer. The deception worked better than intended, and the group came to be known as Mental as Anything. Nearly two decades later, they are still irritating the public with their highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop. A self-explanatory single to reflect their success, The Nips Are Getting Bigger, rose through the charts as did their fundamental understanding of the old adage that 'for every action there is a reaction'. Ahead lay a very lengthy pub crawl which only the accomplished could survive.

John Waters presents BREL
Two Course meal and show  $114.50 pp + B.F.

Show ticket only with bar menu available  $59.50 pp + B.F.

One of Australia’s most recognised and respected actors and singers, John Waters will perform a concert that highlights the songs of the great French Chanson singer-songwriter Jacques Brel. While many of Brel’s songs were recorded in English translation in the 60’s and 70’s by artists including Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Dusty Springfield and Ray Charles, Waters will perform them as their original French versions, explaining their significance along the way – sometimes comic, sometimes tragic, sometimes painfully romantic but always engrossing and compelling. Waters has been inspired by Brel’s songbook since he was in his teens, leading him to perform these incredible songs in late night shows in Sydney’s Kings Cross in the early 1970’s. This eventually evolved into the critically acclaimed tribute show Café Brel in 1999. Now in this brand new incarnation, simply titled BREL, Waters will create and assume the character again, telling stores rich in dimensions that will arouse and entice you into the world and music of Jacques Brel. If you saw Water’s popular John Lennon tribute ‘Looking Through A Glass Onion’ and loved it, then BREL is sure to cast a spell and get under your skin. “Waters makes the French connection.” Sydney Morning Herald.

Australia’s leading jazz vocalist, Vince Jones, is also a remarkable interpreter and composer of songs in a contemporary jazz style – a style that appeals equally to listeners and his musical peers. As a vocalist he resists showing off technique to the detriment of feel – he’s confident in his musical literacy and sings like there’s nothing to prove. It’s a refreshing approach that gives us, the audience, the chance to be really moved. Vince Jones also plays trumpet and over the years his style has developed a distinctive reserve and subtlety – he plays a little less and draws a good deal more from it than he did in earlier days. A brief, thoughtful solo from Vince is worth a hundred notes played with less discretion

Rick Price

RICK PRICE possesses one of the most celebrated and soulful voices in contemporary Australian music. In a wonderfully diverse and successful recording career now spanning almost two decades, the inspiration for the singer/songwriter’s new album, REVISTED, could not have come more clearly or directly. By popular and constant request from his most loyal fans, REVISITED sees Rick revisiting and recasting the best loved songs of his career, including all his classic hit singles – “Not A Day Goes By”, “Heaven Knows [which was voted 1992’s APRA song of the year by Australian songwriters]”, “Walk Away Renee”, “River Of Love” and many more. “Whenever I go out and do an acoustic show, without fail, people will say to me, ‘When are you going to make an acoustic record?’” Rick explains. “So really, this was borne out of requests from people asking me to do it. That was the inspiration behind it, to give people a different look at the songs because when you listen to the old recorded versions, they were done 15 to 18 years ago, they are very different to how I sing and perform them today.” Of course, those old recorded versions of Rick’s greatest hits have taken on a life of their own – mainstays of modern-day mainstream Australian radio. Hardly a day goes by where Rick’s voice isn’t heard coming out of a radio somewhere in Australia, as well as across Asia. But since his pop idol days in the 1990s, Rick Price has forged himself a successful career not only as a great recording artist, but also as a true musical troubadour – a multi-instrumentalist, a producer, a man and his songs on an endless tour.

LIVE DVD RECORDING Fourteen years after their last studio album, The Badloves are back. The band – responsible for such classic singles as Lost, Green Limousine, I Remember and Caroline, as well as the cover of The Weight with Jimmy Barnes – is working on a brand new album. “I know it‟s been a long break,” smiles bass player John Favaro, “but the chemistry is still there. We‟ve all been doing other things, but it‟s very hard to find that chemistry elsewhere. There‟s nothing like The Badloves.” “It all came together organically,” explains singer Michael Spiby. “We were always bumping into each other and whenever we got together on stage, the songs would come alive. I don‟t know what it is, but it works. So I said, „We should put the band back together.‟” The Badloves released just two studio albums before taking some time out – 1993‟s Get On Board (which spent 69 weeks on the charts, peaked at number five, won three ARIA Awards and went double platinum) and 1995‟s Holy Roadside (which went gold and reached number 14).Inspired by the past, The Badloves are a band that‟s very much focused on the future. “It feels like we‟re starting again,” Michael smiles. “We have to prove ourselves, which is very exciting.”

Chain
Main meal and show  $77.00 pp + B.F.

Show ticket only with bar menu available  $35.00 pp + B.F.

Since the late sixties and early seventies, Chain has been the most influential blues/rock band in Australia. They have put an indelible stamp of an Australian style on blues music that no other act has done. Although they individually and collectively learnt the music of the American greats and were influenced by the British blues of the sixties, they interpreted blues in a way no-one had done before… and they were different in other ways too! Their chart success in 1971 was generated by their following, not a record company push. They became known for their dedication to original music and were, in a sense, a reaction to the mindless copying of overseas acts that so many Australian bands indulged in at the time. (There were a few very notable exceptions of course) They also became an iconic symbol for the working class, performed songs that represented the feelings of the anti-Vietnam War movement, and were more suited to the alternative life-style people of the late sixties / early seventies than the mainstream pop world.

Wendy Matthews has a reputation as an artist par excellence with a sublime, expressive voice that never fails to move those who hear it. Both acoustically and physically, Wendy Matthews moves with an enviable minimalism. Her music is an unhurried journey of clean melodies, infectious energy and simple grace. In an age when grunge is thought to be hip and cynicism an attribute, Wendy has proven that commitment to beauty is still not only valid but applauded by the public ear. This is exemplified by the reality that Wendy’s music is now in more than 1 million homes in Australia – all her albums to date have multi-platinum status. Wendy has an immense talent and capacity to capture and define a diverse range of styles in her music. She takes songs from every genre and makes them her own, from jazz to blues, from rock to gospel, from soul to outright infectious pop and then, of course, there are the beautiful ballads. Simply put, Wendy Matthews has a reputation for having one of the finest voices ever. For 'true' fans of Mark Seymour, the real highlight of one of his concerts, is right at the very end, where he invites the entire audience to join in a sing-a-long with him, of his classic 'Throw Your Arms Around Me'. It becomes apparent right then and there that is truly only one Mark Seymour, one of the true innovators of the Australian music scene. Mark always had a passion for music. And in 1981 when Mark formed Hunters and Collectors, one of the greatest bands in Australia's history was born. The Hunters were a strange lot. It was virtually impossible to categorise their music, and whenever someone tagged them as adhering to a specific genre, they would change their musical style once again, not to prove anything to anyone but themselves. Mark Seymour wrote some of the classic Australian drinking songs such as 'When the river runs dry', football match fave 'Holy Grail', hard rockers and slow ballads like 'True tears of joy'.
